In March I had the pleasure of working with the 2025 BIA mentees at the BioIndustry Association (BIA) BIG Women in Biotech in Cambridge.  Thanks again to Dr. Kate Barclay MBE, Samantha Care, Jane Wall, Cristina Hernandez Vazquez and the team for organising. Great to have Emma Thorp and Sophia Mowla leading concurrent workshops on energy and values.

Why is this worth reflecting on? Because having a purpose is important.

Why? This group of mentees were in no doubt:

·       Gives you direction, a North star that you can follow, and you can plan to achieve it

·       Enables you to focus on what’s important

·       Motivates you, it’s the reason why you get up out of bed and work hard for patients

·       Leads to happiness for you and those close to you

·       Allows you to have clarity and your team to be cohesive

And its not only true for individuals. For organizations it is critical for success.  Having a clear organizational purpose enables success, where people are aligned, motivated and engaged, working together in pursuit of clearly defined goals that result from a well-defined and inspirational purpose.
